Looks awfull, to be honest, and it seems like Apple just frankensteined their excisting silicone case and gave it a tumor. Making their own battery pack is probably smart, and I agree with the idea. However, this just looks half-assed and not very "Apple-like" at all. They should at least made the battery taller so it wouldn't look so out of place.
If Steve was still alive I imagine he would toss this (with phone inside) at the head of whoever was presenting it to him in a design review. This is just embarrassing from a company that generally does so well with lust worthy gadgets. It's got first party integration and lightning cable charging going for it. But it's a hell of an eyesore, the capacity is low, and the price is high.
Apple doesn't have that filter of Steve Jobs to prevent this from seeing the day of light anymore. He would've stopped it at its sketch phase and said get this ugly crap out of here. Now, Apple's main motivation is profit and their designs are suffering for it.
Why couldn't they make the device 1mm thicker and put a decent sized battery in there to begin with? That way we could avoid Frankensteinesque solutions like this in the first place.
I went with the 6s instead of the new Nexuses(size, support and the fact that I felt the 5X was a dissappointment and that the 6P was too big) and I've got to admit that the battery life isn't half bad. I'm actually pleasantly surprised by it.
It gets me through a day no problem, but with no safety buffer. My first gen Moto G used to often last a second day if I forgot to charge it, the 6S would be dead early if I did.
And I'm not the most demanding user, I imagine super heavy users could kill it in the first day.
Because you are going to put a case on it anyway. So knowing this why not thin down the phone, even remove the 3.5mm connector, and then have cases that add more battery, more connectors for those who want them.
That is what I expect with the iPhone 7. Customization through cases, and massive profit margins.
Which i'd buy into if they can get their cases up to the same industrial design standards of the iPhone itself.
All phones come with a case, feeling you should have to buy a second case for it is just nuts, especially if you believe that is an excuse for including a substandard capacity battery or lack of standard connectors.
Oh, I see what you're doing now... iPhone 7, customisation through cases... I'm British, my sarcasm detector should have activated before I'd read your post a second time.
In the desire to have share in every possible revenue niche, Apple is losing sight of what made it distinctive in the first place, great design and an unparalleled user experience. It meant living without things that other companies would do, build one product and then accessorise it to hell. Apple is going the same way. First buy an iPhone, then buy an ugly looking £79 case, then buy apple earphones because the other earphones don't fit...
"The rationale for this design is that it allows you to remove the case by peeling back at the top, without having to make the case out of two separate parts like the other battery cases available on the market." Makes sense to me. As far as I'm concerned, the bulge is a wash compared to the bulk of third-party cases.
Whey didn't they extend the battery all the way to the sides and bottom? There is a lot more room to fit battery in that case. Seems silly to me. FIne, don't make it extend all the way to the top so you can peel it off, but what about the bottom and sides? Apple being stingy as usual.
I like it, not that I'd need it but I still like it, there's something about it I like maybe it's the whole "it's a block of silicon with a battery in it, what did you expect, Michelangelo's David??" feel I get from it.
It's subjective so if people don't like it they buy something different.
Poor iphone.. why does this is needed hmmm Does its batt. sucks? hmm YEAH.. And for some very strange reason it is best phone for almost all phone websites.. very strange..
Though it does not look pretty, it's still helpful to me. better than to connect the power bank with a cable. I accept it, and looking for a carrying case. The battery case really gets dirty easily. I only find pdair make the leather pouches and holster support the iPhone 6s in smart battery case. Any other suggestion?
For those who often need to recharge an iPhone multiple times while traveling or over the weekend, the Smart Battery Case probably isn’t best for you. For those who need just a little more juice to get through a long travel day, the Smart Battery Case will get the job done. Yeah. It seems like they dropped the ball on this one as well as the UFO-like Watch Dock. That looks bad as well.Shlong - Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - link

You got a 6S and think a 6P was too big?!?!WithoutWeakness - Wednesday, December 9, 2015 - link
The iPhone 6S is quite a bit smaller than the Nexus 6P. The iPhone 6S Plus is much closer in size but is also considerably larger than the normal 6S.Sttm - Tuesday, December 8, 2015 - link

Since the USB 3.0 and 3.1 shares the same pin count. Anyone may guess the reason why Apple did not go for the USB 3.1 transfer speed?Impulses - Wednesday, December 9, 2015 - link
Probably because of controller costs and the fact that the internal NAND isn't fast enough to saturate 3.0 anyway.sseemaku - Wednesday, December 9, 2015 - link
