That's a lot of CPU and GPU in a very cramped space to keep cool. I'd be interested in seeing a certain hardware review site do some thermal testing in conjunction with a review.
  • TheinsanegamerN - Monday, December 5, 2016 - link

if its anything like the last one, the CPU will sit at 95C and thermal throttle, while the GPU sits in the upper 70s.

That's one hella big battery... How?

The MSI GS43VR has a 2.5 inch drive space, 14 inch, but only has a 61WHr battery.

The Razer Blade only has a 70WHr battery...

    You answered it yourself.

The MSI has a 2.5 inch drive bay. The gigabyte does not.

the razer is.7 inch thick, the gigabyte is.85 inch thick. That allows a lot more room for a battery.

I would be really interested in a laptop with a i7 dual core and a 1050Ti, to make cheaper and would be good enough to run all the AAA games that are coming out in 1080p medium~high

I would love to see a quad core ultrabook with the new intel iris pro. The iris pro is more than enought capable and i know you can make the 4 core i7 run at a 35 tdp state. My 13" macbook pro has a 28W tdp dual core.

It can't be hard to make a 1.5kg 13.3" with a full 4 core i7 for production use. And the iris pro ofcause. And with the new TB3 external GPU's it would make one hell of a machine. You could turn off all iGPU when docked and thus have more headroom for the cpu! WHEN!
I really hope razer or someone does this soon. I would like to change my 13 inch macbook, but i won't buy a quad core + dGPU machine, because i use cpu a lot for CAD and 3D rendering but i game on a desktop (gtx 670/2500k master race :P a new laptop cpu will beat my desktop cpu :'( )

Any machine with a shared heatsink design should do well in a docked thunderbolt configuration as with the DGPU off the cpu will get all the cooling.

    Couple of questions:

    1. What is the "G" icon that is lit up? Is that to turn the nVidia card off/on?

    2. Is the USB-C connector used for charging? Or does this still require a separate/proprietary charging brick/connector?

Beyond those two questions, this computer really looks nice. I'm hoping the keys and trackpad are fairly nice. I'm not sure why Dell can't seem to put out a keyboard in any of their ultrabook style laptops that have dedicated Page Up/Dn and Home/End keys. Not only does Gigabyte manage that, but they put in custom gamer keys as well. Props to them!

This definitely can't charge via the USB-Type C. The USB Power Delivery standard only allows up to 100W of charging. Typical 6700HQ/GTX1060 laptops usually use a 165/180W power brick.

Yup, and the 1st picture in the gallery shows a socket for a barrel style power connector.

My XPS 15 can charge and run from the type C, but if you start playing a game or something it will discharge unless you have the standard charger plugged in.

Yet another thing to lug around.

"Macro Function: One-click Execution in Any Game

Well that's less exciting. It'd be nice to save some battery by turning off the nVidia card when not needed. So is the "G" icon a 6th macro key, or to turn all the macro keys off/on?
  • digiguy - Monday, December 5, 2016 - link

This is done automatically via Optimus

A couple of corrections: there is full hd variant, that was only for the old model. Something else has changed in addition to the GPU from the old model. One of the 2 M.2 slot has been removed. As you said, the slot supports both SATA and PCIe (the old 2 ones did too). And the speakers have been slightly increased to 2W from 1.5W.
  • digiguy - Monday, December 5, 2016 - link

    *there is no full hd
  • TheinsanegamerN - Monday, December 5, 2016 - link

Going to need a source on them removing one of the two M.2 slots.
  • digiguy - Monday, December 5, 2016 - link

not sure I understand what you mean, but there is already a video review of the new model that shows it clearly and the specs of the new model confirm it
  • GTRagnarok - Monday, December 5, 2016 - link

It's in the specs sheet on Gigabyte's website. That's really disappointing, losing one of the slots. I don't see why they removed it either. The new model appears to be exactly the same except for the upgraded GPU and speakers.
  • digiguy - Monday, December 5, 2016 - link

yes it's a mystery, in the video you can see very well that the missing slot was replaced by... nothing... so it's not to save space or money... why the hell? You could put a 512GB PCIe SSD for the OS and a 1T SATA SSD for data, for instance, all for around 500$
