First of all it's pegasus zenfone pegasus.
And Ferrari The Ferrari is at least called Enzo.
  • fanofanand - Thursday, June 16, 2016 - link

I believe he's referring to the Ferrari model "LaFerrari" which would translate into Ferrari the Ferrari. The Enzo Ferrari was called the Enzo, very different models about 10 years separated.

Instead of pushing forward Asus decided to tank its phone sales this cycle. They try for 5minutes and then they give up. At this pace they will go down with the PC.

"this model is mostly targeted at China and isn’t sold outside of China"

    Self-fulfilling prophecy much?

BTW it's a quad core MT6737 not octa core. http://www.mediatek.com/en/products/mobile-communi...
Don't just copy paste from sources that just copy paste from much worse sources, check the facts. 99% of the so called tech sites have no filter nor can they be bothered to check facts.

Asus China is listing the specs http://www.asus.com.cn/Phone/ASUS-X008/specificati...

The SoC might be at 1.25GHz and they round it up but can't find a confirmation as it's a new SoC and nothing out there using it yet.
The pic could also use an upgrade to better show the device and its huge black bands.

It seems this Pegasus stands little chance to compete with Xiaomi's Redmi 3S.

Lenovo has 1080p but no fingerprint at 699CNY http://www.lenovo.com.cn/product/51190.html

Ofc the best value phone at this time is the 360 Mobile N4 at 899CNY(137$) with Helio X20 at 2GHz (or 2.1GHz according to some CPU-Z screenshots),, 4GB RAM, 32GB NAND and fast charging . http://www.360shouji.com/zt/n4/index.html

They're not competing though, really just as the Redmi 3s with Adreno 505 will blow this thing out of the water! In the sub 400$ segment there's very little competition for anything Xiaomi.

ZTE Blade 2A, Meizu m3 , 360 Mobile f4 , Meizu 3s , Huawei Honor 5x , the Lenovo i mentioned above and 100 others are competing with Xiaomi in value at the 600-700CNY price point.. Xiaomi isn't all that competitive at any price point anymore. A new wave with LeEco ,Meizu, 360 Mobile and so on are applying more pressure.
Xiaomi made a mess last year by not launching the devices they needed to stay competitive and now they are in a panic and doing everything wrong. They are spamming with devices, Redmi 3 just 4 months ago, then the version with fingerprint, now the 3s and 3x and none of those are exciting enough. The 4s was launched and canceled. Their prices are being pushed up , they are giving up on the online only model, they are annoying users with a bloated ROM full of ads.
They need a simple product line and every device to be remarkable. They need to appeal to upgraders not just new users and they need a more fluent ROM.They need to innovate not copy, they need to create value for Xiaomi and their users not sell out to Intel and Microsoft and they need to remember to provide software upgrades and support.

I know LeEco, formerly LeTV, provides tremendous VFM similar to what Mi devices are offering, for a better part of 4 years. The rest of them don't lineup, purely in terms of specs. The thing that's going in favor of Xioami is that they really haven't had a flop like the Le1s, helio X10 based & overheats like hell, plus their headphones & other accessories are really catching on.

As for Xiaomi panicking, I really doubt that's the case. The reason why they're spinning more models this year is because LeEco is really giving them tough competition in their VFM segment, hence better specced phones, but that doesn't mean that the latter is winning.

Just as a point of reference the Le2 was launched with SD652 in India, where I live, because of the issues with Le1s. It's the most important market for these two & many other competing Chinese firms, outside China, & it tells you that just a big bang launch is simply not enough. Anywhere & everywhere they go they must build a brand, even if starting as a VFM alternative to the likes of Samsung, & continuously avoid costly blunders like the Le1s.

Xiaomi has plenty of problems. They used the x10 too in the Note 2 and 3 and they used SD810 and SD808 and SD820 for that matter, all of those are "overheating" too. Not that the Atom in the Mi Pad 2 isn't overheating but there it's called Turbo and that's fine.
Hell the Xiaomi 4i that was India only and at a very high price, was a huge overheating mess since SD615 just couldn't do 1.7GHz.
In China they are in trouble on all fronts. They used to lead and now a few others are ahead.
Last year they missed their own sales target by quite a bit.
This year in Q1 their global sales were some 14 million units, behind Samsung, Apple, Huawei, OPPO and Vivo.
In China, as per IDC, Q1 was as follows: Huawei 16.6 million units, OPPO 15.8, Vivo 13.6 , Apple 13.1, Xiaomi 9.2 , others 34.3
In China their lack of software updates and support as well as their slow and bloated ROM reminds one of HTC some years ago.
In India in Q1 the top 5 was Samsung,Micromax, Intex, Lenovo and Reliance Jio. Xiaomi is losing ground there too after a good start.
In Brazil they failed to gain traction and they just took a pause to figure out what to do.

Gadget spam doesn't work, even Samsung failed at that but for an online brand it's a hell of a lot more important not to spam, keep it simple and maximize the impact of each launch.

So where is the HTC 10 complete review ?
  • chr9Ogdfa - Friday, August 26, 2016 - link

everyone who even is considering buying an Asus Zenfone should bear in mind, they have not yet updated their full line-up to Android M, Zenfone 2 Z551ML is still pending it's update - and in the meanwhile even Android N is release!!!

For their other phones it took them 10months to update.

So in case you want to look for a vendor who updates their Android versions, I suggest you pass on Asus.
