Having listened carefully to the earnings call yesterday, they only spoke specifically of EPYC and Navi in Q3. Q2, as I has been alluded to by many, therefore, is still a valid possibility for Zen 2 Ryzen. Do you have some additional source for this information outside of the call which we are not aware of?
@Makaveli: By the way, July is in Q3. The 7th through 9th months (July, August, September) are Q3. The 4th through 6th months (April, May, June) are Q2.
I doubt it that any CPU or GPU will launch during July-August summer holydays/vacations. Most likely they will lauch in September right before school starts, maybe on 9/11 :)
I too was disappointed that I was going to miss the Zen2 launch when I finally finished building my latest build. But with that said, I am very pleased with my Zen+ TR2 2920X. And I think I'll be good with it for some time to come.
High probability a 4xx chipset will run 7nm processors. AMD is often pretty good about that. You will obviously need a firmware update, further incentivising the need to purchase a current-gen CPU - even if a basic 2200G to get you by - to POST the board and flash the BIOS with.
Ryzen 2000 launched about 1 year ago, so we aren’t too far off from a strict annual release cycle from AMD, and the last 2 releases have been meaningful upgrades. Seems like 3000 won’t disappoint, so I think the wait is forgivable. I’m just glad they keep pushing even when Intel is struggling.
Q3 is consistent with all of the rumors I've read. I figure we'll be hearing about it from Computex in 3 weeks and they'll start shipping in early July.
From everything I've heard, 2019 will only have "*mainsteam*" Navi. Anything faster will have to wait until 2020. I'd expect a Polaris scaled up to max out GDDR6, no more (probably looking a lot like a Vega56/64).
there should be a 2070 and 2060 equivalent without RT for much less, so decent value for a new build but for people already running Vega-64 or any new Nvidia card nothing this year is expected to be a major upgrade. Nothing too exciting but lower price and lower power variants of what's already out there isn't too bad.
That is what I am hoping for - good value and performance with decent power consumption in the 200-300 range. Could not care less about Ray Tracing for now (and in that price range).
How much less we get 7nm card that is about speed of 2080, without RT cores... Yeah about the same as 2080... So 2070 without RT cores can be as expensive as 2070... But that 400$ sounds very plausible. 250 for 2060 speed and 125 for 1060 speed...
Remember that Vega VII wasn't originally supposed to launch to consumers.
So, Navi could well scale up to Vega VII and beyond. It would take less die area to reach parity, since Navi won't have all the fp64 and might even lack some of the machine learning instructions (or restrict them to just a few cores, like how consumer GPUs normally implement fp64).
I believe there will be NAVI20 which suppose to be Vega 20 replacement for next year. it´s unclear if AMD will repeat it´s decision and will put them in consumer market as they did with Radeon VII...
And I don´t think Q3 Navi version will replace Radeon VII, as it makes no sense ...
Navi was certainly mostly paid for by Sony and going in the "PS5". The "PS5" will be backward compatible with the PS4, so expect something not more different from GCN than Vega.
Similar to how Nvidia called Turing "an all new architecture". These companies all have solid ideas on how to solve these problems (see CPUs as well) and Moore's law isn't forcing them to change. Thus the word "architecture" gets abused.

So is the consumer launch still Q2 (July)And rome the server cpu in Q3?

Nothing is launching in Q2. All launches that are being publicized today are in Q3.darkswordsman17 - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 - link
Does that mean no Ryzen 3000 til Q4 then? Or are you just talking about these two?Hifihedgehog - Wednesday, May 1, 2019 - link

Depends on whether AMD refers to Q3 on a business basis, or on a calendar basis.Given rumours about 7/7 launch, it seems likely it's on a calendar basis.

The month of July is not in Q2, it is the first month of Q3. So a "Q3 launch" for Navi, Rome and possibly Ryzen could very well mean a July launch.Gastec - Monday, May 13, 2019 - link

Q3? So July-September. Sad. I was eagerly awaiting an upgrade to Navi+Ryzen 3000 in ~June. Most likely will happen in September at this point.Sigh.

Well, remember this whole 7/7 thing, thats in Q3 isnt it.I expect soft launch with preorders (yuck) and with 2-3 weeks from general availability

If the launch rumors hold any water the soft launch (with preorders) should be in early - mid June and the hard launch will take place in 7/7.TristanSDX - Tuesday, April 30, 2019 - link
assuming Navi will be equal to 2070 but without RT, then price can't be higher than 350-400$Smell This - Wednesday, May 1, 2019 - link
I think you got that back-asswords.Vega/Navi apparently has some special sauce baked into 'Radeon Rays' compute. Whether that is MS DXR, et al, remains to be seen (or, scene).
Navi *mainstream* -- meaning $250 +/- -- is a legitimate goal. Think GTX 1660 Ti (TU116) but with 25% less die and 25% more compute . . .

Navi is probably just going to be a Polaris replacement for the mainstream, still graphics core next... Vega will sit in the high end.It will be rather uninspiring I think.

That's right at my price point. :DNot great for bragging rights, but... if it performs well for the mid-range, it will sell. They'll widen the Navi lineup after that, at any rate.
