The AnandTech Podcast: Episode 2

This week Brian Klug, Ryan Smith and myself discussed Thunderbolt, Quick Sync in OS X, Windows 8/RT, the current state of the mobile SoC landscape and finally we put Ryan's talents to good use and went over his picks for the best graphics cards on the market today. We went to a slightly longer format for this episode and ended up clocking in at 1 hour and 31 minutes.
Our goal is to make this a weekly affair, with Monday as the targeted publication date for the podcasts. The podcast is now available via iTunes as well as RSS feeds for both the MP3 and M4A versions. Links to everything are below.

I liked this one better than the first one, really.Loved the fact that the 1440p korean monitors got some spotlight as well. IMO they are the single hottest thing to have hit the PC landscape this year.
I would have loved to hear your thoughts on why PC monitors aren't getting any sort of high ppi treatment. Even though the technology has been here for a long time now, we still see same old 1080p monitors. I guess that "race to the worst" statement does have some weight to it.
Quad core A15s at 2 Ghz in a smartphone would be a complete overkill for today's platforms as well. It would be amazing to see them chomp through apps. :D

I think it's a yield issue. This is why high dpi is going from small to big, There's a reason it started out with phones, then the iPad, then 15" laptop. At least we're relatively close to 24"+ screens.laforge2001 - Tuesday, August 28, 2012 - link

I haven't listened yet to this episode, but I really enjoyed the first one, and I was looking forward to this one - mostly to your thoughts on the SOC marketplace. My only suggestion is do NOT stick to a weekly schedule - it'll require you to put a lot of filler content into it. There are enough weekly tech podcast on the market - mostly boring. I can see the reasons why you'd like to make it a weekly event, but I'd personally like Anandtech to put out a monthly or so podcast.iamkyle - Tuesday, August 28, 2012 - link
2nd'ed.PLEASE don't stick to a weekly "be all, end all" schedule. If you have content or some interesting things to discuss, please by all means! If not, not a big deal. I'm pretty sure I speak for most Anandtech readers/listeners here when I say that we trust your insights and commentary & understand that it takes time to assemble such commentary.

Great feedback - as always, we're not big on filler content. We won't make any exceptions for the podcast either. This is still a new format for us and it's a great way of getting out tons of information/discussion that we just don't have the time to write so I don't see a near term limit to our ability to crank out one a week. The big issue will be what happens around long tradeshows like IDF, CES, etc... I like the idea of doing one remotely but that's not always possible with meeting schedules and such.Take care,

Am I the only one waiting for an external GPU over Thunderbolt? I get that storage is a good consumer of all that bandwidth, but so is the GPU. The desire to have a strong GPU is the piece keeping me from using a thin-and-light laptop as my primary system.
